If you're reading this than you probably noticed the subject question, "Are you happy?" Well...are you?

Today I want to talk about things that we can add to your life to make you happier. Some may be food related while others might be more of a way of life. Either way, everything I talk about today will benefit you. Enjoy!

1. Foods that will NEVER make you fat

If you're looking to add something to your diet, think about adding these 8 foods. They will never make you fat!! That's definitely something to be happy about!

Celery - Depending on your body type, celery has the potential to put you in a negative energy balance. That means, you burn more calories eating it, than not eating it. You are welcome! Bell Peppers - The spice in peppers also can help you burn more calories. It heats your body up so your body works to cool it back down. Kale - People to consume kale tend to have a lower body weight than those that refuse to go green! Broccoli - This is one of my favorites! Broccoli will keep you full longer but not add a bunch of calories to your MyFitnessPal or Lose It App! Purple Cabbage - Add this to your salad to keep you from snacking more throughout the day. Plus, it has cancer fighting properties. What a bonus! Cauliflower - If you don't crave this powerhouse veggie, add some spices to it or extra virgin olive oil. Cherry Tomatoes - Only fruit on the list. Great option to have as a low-sugar snack. Spinach - Another favorite of mine. Add this to your diet, especially if you like to work out. Spinach will help your muscles repair!

2. Meditation

Adding meditation to your life can have many positive benefits, which I will list below. I just started making meditation part of my daily routine within the last year. I've noticed a shift in my "big deal," life scenarios. Start with just two minutes a day and build up from there. Guided meditation is a great place to start. Here's a website I use for my guided meditations: fragrantheart.com

  • Can help decrease high blood pressure

  • Can help relieve depression

  • Can help with anxiety

  • Develop patience, generosity, love, forgiveness

  • Can help self-regulate the mind for positive thoughts

  • Yoga can also help you practice meditation

3. Foods to boost your mood

These foods will help boost your mood. Remember moderation is key.

Chocolate (dark chocolate that is) - Reduces stress hormones Carbs - Whole grains, fruits, and beans. You'll be much happier if you consume carbs in moderation than the person next to you on Atkins! Whole Foods (fruits and veggies) - People who consume more fruits and veggies were less likely to feel depressed. Fish - Contains Omega 3's which is linked to our brain chemistry. Omega 3's have been found to boost your mood. Saffron - Belief is that the spice aids in the good neurotransmitter serotonin. Coconut - Specifically smelling coconut. Studies have found that inhaling a relaxing scent can reduce stress and promote positive mood. Tea (Black, Oolong, & Green) - The caffeine found in these teas has been linked to alertness and focus. Who doesn't feel good when they're focused on something!!!

4. Gratitude Lists

A gratitude list is something to write at the end of each day. You go through your day and right down the things you are grateful for. One way I do this is by writing down all the things that I did or achieved that day that I feel good about. (ex. I took my dog for a long walk. I ran all the errands I wanted to do over the weekend.) Here are some of the benefits of having a gratitude list:

  • More good feeling

  • More relaxed

  • Happier Memories

  • Less self-centered

  • Kinder

  • Better marriage or relationships

  • Improved sleep

  • MORE EXERCISE

  • Goal achievement

  • Increased productivity

  • Better management

  • Better networking
