Happy Friday!

How is your week going? I hope you enjoyed the 3 part series of the Best of the Best! This week i'd like to move on to Thanksgiving. What are you doing to prepare for the big feast? I'm sure 95% of us are all splurging that day, but there are things that we can do so that we don't fall too far off the wagon.

1. Get Active

  • In Preparation for the big day, you want to create a larger calorie deficit.

  • Meaning, get in a workout before the big feast.

  • Go for a morning hike or meet with your trainer (most gyms are open on Thanksgiving).

2. Don't Skip your Breakfast

  • Skimping on breakfast don't equal more for Thanksgiving.

  • Make sure you eat in the morning so that when you are filling your plate you'll make smarter choices.

  • Having eggs or protein for breakfast is an excellent option. Protein will keep you full longer, keeping those cravings at bay.

3. Enjoy your Food

  • Don't inhale your food, savor it!

  • Eat more slowly so that those hunger cues have time to kick in. The hunger window lasts around 20 minutes.

  • Drinking water while you eat will also help slow things down so that you don't overeat and feel guilty later.

  • Wait to eat your dessert until you are hungry again (or at least not full). This will relieve some of that Thanksgiving guilt AND make your dessert more enjoyable.

4. Easy up on the Alcohol

  • Try to have a glass of water or sparkling water between drinks.

  • When you eat more food you need to drink more to feel the same effects. This packs on many more calories and excess sugars.

5. Skinny Dishes

  • Try to replace your favorite Thanksgiving items with healthier versions tasting just as delicious.

  • Try for less calories, less sugar, and less fat.

  • Ways to lighten up the dish: Use fat-free chicken broth for gravy and basting of the turkey, use sugar substitutes in place of sugar, use fruit purees instead of oil in baked goods, reduce oil and butter whenever you get the opportunity, and finally try fat-free sour cream or plain yogurt in your mashed potatoes, dips, and casseroles.

I think that does it for today. Please let me know if you have any questions. Keep up with those workouts before the holidays creep up on us. You will feel much better come New Years if you stick to your healthy routine.
