...to change up your workout!

There comes a time in everyone's fitness journey that a change needs to happen! We cannot do the same workout routine for years on end and expect to keep getting results. So, lets talk about those signs that you are ready for a change!

1. Things start to get easy

  • Although you make think this is a good thing, it is not! Your body has adapted to the exercises you have been doing. We need to add on a new stimulus.

  • Increase your reps

  • Add weight

  • Change up the order of your exercises

  • Add a time element to increase your intensity

  • Slow down the exercise to make more of an eccentric contraction

  • The last few reps should be significantly more challenging. If they are not, time to change it up

  • Exercises need to be difficult for the body to respond

2. You're bored

  • If you find yourself just thinking about when it's over and it's not because of how challenging it is....you're probably bored.

  • Spice it up and do something different so that you're engaged.

  • You are more likely to continue to workout on a regular basis if you find what you're doing exciting.

  • If you are working out with a trainer just let them know that you'd like to change it up to keep you engaged, as a trainer myself, I'd be happy to do that!

3. Hunger Cues

  • If you notice a change in your appetite where you find yourself not as hungry anymore.

  • Chances are that if you found going from being extremely hungry to not-so-much, your body has caught on to what you are doing and it's time for an additional stimulus.

4. The Soreness has ceased

  • Now feeling less sore than your first workout is okay, it means your muscle groups are getting used to moving in a new way, but if you're not sore, even in the slightest bit, it may be time for a change.

  • A small level of soreness is what we are looking for.

  • If you're not feeling that ache in your abs or legs, lets look for a new exercise we can do to work out that muscle group.

5. The Mirror shouldn't lie

  • First, ask yourself honestly, how has your diet been? If your diet's been in check & you've been working out on a consistent basis for 6 weeks you should see changes when you look in the mirror.

  • Change up your routine if you aren't seeing those changes.

  • Change up your diet as well if you know you haven't been eating the healthiest.

Okay, that does it for this week! See you next Friday. And thank you for visiting my website!
