In honor of Shark Week we are going to talk about swimming!!! Swimming is a great total body workout. It's a very efficient way to work out major muscle groups in a shore amount of time. Now go jump in that pool!

1. Benefits of Swimming

  • Swimming is one of the best forms of cardio you can do. It torches calories, works major muscle groups, AND it's low impact on the joints.

  • Swimming can help manage stress levels & boost your mood.

  • The average person can burn up to 330 calories in just 30 minutes. Sure beats running!

  • Swimming will strengthen your muscles, but because it's low impact it doesn't put too much stress on your joints.

  • It can help you sleep better.

  • Decrease risk for disease!

2. It does a body good

  • Can help increase flexibility

  • A nice gentle swim can help flush out the toxins from your body, keeping your muscles nice and relaxed

  • Core Cruncher

  • Because you incorporate so many muscle groups when swimming it's no wonder swimmers have such nice builds. Your core helps keep your upper and lower body moving together.

  • Metabolism Meltdown

  • I mean this in the best way possible.

  • Swimming boosts your metabolism so that you are burning more calories while at rest!

  • Great way to increase your endurance

3. Swim to slim

  • Before the dive

  • Foods

  • 1-2 pieces of whole wheat toast

  • Banana with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter

  • High-fiber cereal with low-fat milk

  • Protein Bar

  • After the dive

  • Food

  • Recovery drinks (carbs + protein)

  • Protein Bar

  • Fruit

  • Eggs

  • Fish

  • Chicken

  • Beef

  • Low-fat cheese

I think that covers it! We know how good swimming is for us. We also know what foods to incorporate before and after the swim. So go grab those bathing suits and hop in a pool!
