Skinny Fat has come into the fitness world with a vengeance. But what is it? How can you tell if you're healthy or if you're considered 'skinny fat?' Today, we are going to dive into this term and find out if this is you. Don't worry, if you do fall into this category, you aren't stuck. It is changeable.
1. Skinny Fat, what does it mean?
Skinny Fat is a person of normal weight and BMI for their height, but they have a way more body fat than muscle in their body.
Skinny Fat people are internally unbalanced.
Just because you are thin that does not mean you are in good health.
Being skinny fat puts you at a higher risk for disease.
Skinny Fat people share the SAME metabolic characteristics as people who are obese!!!
2. Get Your Body Fat Tested
To find out if you're considered 'Skinny Fat' you need to know what your body fat percentage is.
Here are a few ways to check your body fat percentage:
Skin Calipers
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) Device
Underwater Weighing
The easiest way is to use a BIA Device. Many gyms have these pieces of equipment. This is what I use to test my client's body fat percentage on a regular basis.
3. What Cause You to Become Skinny Fat?
You stopped using muscles that used to be active and maintained the same caloric intake.
You are not active on a regular basis, have a desk job, and do not eat a health conscious diet.
4. How To Stop Being Skinny Fat?
Start working out, with weights. You need to adjust your body composition and start putting on lean muscle.
Cardio won't cut it, you need to do some resistance training.
You also need to start paying attention to what you're putting into your body.
We need to get your Resting Metabolic Rate active again.
Being 'Skinny Fat' is one of the easiest things to change because it all has to do with your lifestyle choices and how you are choosing to spend your time. You got this! You are not obese so don't let your body pretend that you are.
