This week's blog is for the ladies! New moms especially, this one's for you.

Okay, so we go through 9 months of carrying this baby around, putting on a bunch of weight, and then what? We're supposed to just have all this time in the world after the baby's arrival to snap back into shape?

I can attest that it's not that easy to find the time to work out with a baby around. This gets increasingly more difficult as your baby starts to get separation anxiety and begins to walk. They no longer want to sit in a stroller or be stuck in a baby carrier. How are we supposed to keep our fit body that we just got back when our kids won't let us? Lets tackle those objections today!

1. Objection #1: I can't use the daycare gym until my baby is 6 months old!

  • A lot of gyms have rules about the age you can bring your baby to the gym's daycare. But...every gym is different!

  • Many gyms will let you freeze you're account if you cannot use their facility. Not allowing you to bring your baby to the daycare means you cannot use the gym and therefore should be grounds for letting you freeze your account for a few months.

  • My advice: Freeze your account and look into other local gyms where the daycare will take your baby at 3 months old.

  • Use the new gym until your regular gym will accept your baby. Just make sure that you're not signing a long term contact with the new gym.

2. Objection #2: I don't have a gym membership.

  • Figure out a workout you can do at home!

  • I write tons of workouts for people who don't like to workout in a gym setting. I just have to know what equipment you have and BAM....I can whip up a program for you to get to your goals.

  • If your baby is small enough, plop them into a baby carrier and go for a walk or hike. Instant weight vest....at least that's what I call my son on hikes.

  • If you have a bigger baby, go to the park with another mom friend, and find one that also has a track. You guys can take turns watching the kids, while the other walks the track. This is also a great option for mom's who can't afford a gym membership or workout equipment.

3. Objection #3: I just don't have the time. Period!

  • This is my saving grace, invest in a treadmill, bike or elliptical and hop on it while you can. 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there....it can add up. You can mesh this with your at-home training program and you got yourself a well-rounded workout.

  • With my son, who is 14 months old, I put him right in front of me in an activity walker (one without wheels), load him up with his favorite treats (healthy ones of course), and put on his favorite cartoon. Believe it or not, he lets me do an entire 30 minute cardio sesh on the elliptical.

  • With strength training: I pull out whatever equipment I'm using that day and do a workout right there in the living room while my son is busy playing with his toys. Occasionally, he steals my stopwatch or leans on me while I'm planking...but, hey at least he's pushing me!

4. Objection #4: I can't afford a gym membership.

  • See Objection #2: Pairing up with a friend and taking turns is a great alternative that won't cost you any money.

  • Pair that with some squats, push ups, and planks every day and trust me you'll get stronger!

If there is an objective I missed please let me know what it is and I will try to solve it! Have a great weekend!
