If you've been to the pharmacy recently, you might be privy to the fact that the new strand of the flu vaccine is now available! Hopefully you don't get sick, but as the weather starts to change (in most states) more people are prone to catching a bug. If you are one of the unlucky ones and a cold's got you down, this week's post is for you! Today we are talking about the best foods to eat when you're sick. Enjoy!
1. Lets start with the most obvious: Chicken Soup

Why: Chicken soup is a great source of vitamins and minerals. It also acts as a decongestant and is a great source of fluids to keep you from getting dehydrated.
2. Garlic!

Why: Garlic can stimulate your immune system and help you fight off that nasty infection. If you eat it regularly you might find yourself sick less often. If you're already under the weather, garlic can help you recover quickly.
3. Honey

Why: Honey isn't just soothing for the throat. Because of Honey's antibacterial effects, it can also help activate your immune system helping you get back on your feet. If you find yourself under a coughing attack, honey has been found to help suppress this.
4. Oatmeal

Why: First and foremost oatmeal is easy to eat without any strong flavors. Oatmeal can help decrease inflammation which can help with an upset stomach. It's also an excellent source of nutrients and can help activate your immune system. A few things oatmeal can help with: bloating, stomach irritation, diarrhea, and cramping.
5. Bring on the Spice!

Why: Spicy foods can be used as a decongestant. If you have a stuffed nose, spicy foods can be used to break of the mucus. Think chili peppers and spices...maybe even a little wasabi. Spicy foods can also aid in suppressing the need to cough.
6. Hot Tea

Why: Not only is hot tea a great source of fluids and antioxidants, but it can also act as a natural decongestant. Echinacea Tea can help shorten the length of the flu and cold. Black Teas can help decrease the growth of nasty bacteria in the throat. Teas can also help relieve throat pains or discomforts you might get from the common cold. Hot tea will also help you stay hydrated and can help decrease inflammation.
That does it for today! Be well, stay healthy and hydrated, and I'll see you next week!
